When You Help Others, You're Helping Yourself

I made it into work, still feeling like crap, but between biscuits and gravy from the cafeteria (and later, beef brisket sandwich for lunch--it's a pure salad dinner night tonight!) and my coworkers being natural comedians, I'm feeling much better!

One of the things I noticed on my Facebook News Feed, though, was that a lot of my friends were feeling pretty badly, too. A few had gotten into fights with other friends, or boyfriends and girlfriends, or they had just broken up with their significant other, or they're dealing with the perils of working a customer service job, or they're supremely stressed out from finals. Instead of whining about my troubles, I decided to update my status with a simple: "You're all beautiful, wonderful, and amazing people, and I'm extremely happy to have you in my life!"

I hope it brightened up someone's day, even if it's someone I rarely talk to. It makes me feel infinitely better if it lifted even just one person's spirits, and even if only just a little bit. Even just knowing that it might make someone smile is enough for me, and it's enough to make me smile. Maybe that's all that matters, in the end.
